New Hyde Park, NY (April 2009) - On Tuesday, April 14th The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island held its annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner at Koenig's Restaurant in Floral Park. Over 100 guests were in attendance to pay homage to the extraordinary volunteers of the House. The evening was emceed by Michael Pfeiffer, the RMH-LI volunteer manager.

The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island has received a $10,000 grant from the Slomo and Cindy Silvian Foundation. The grant will be used to assist the House's "Share-a-Night" Program which insures that no family is turned away because of financial restraints.

While most nine-year-old boys are asking for video games and toys on their birthday, Merrick native Evan Horowitz has always taken a different approach. For the past six years, instead of asking for presents on his birthday, Evan asks friends and family members to make donations to The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island to assist children who are in greater need. Since he was three years old, Evan's extraordinary efforts have generated over $10,000 for the House and he hopes to keep raising funds for years to come.

On Friday October 24th, what started out as an idea among three high school buddies turned into reality. Plainview-Old Bethpage High School students Josh Seiden, Jason Feldman and Matthew Melnyk's plan was to organize a live stand-up comedy show to benefit The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island. The event was called 'Standup for a Cause' and with the help of several generous sponsors and a crowd of over 100 people, the friends were able to raise over $3000 for the House.

MSC Industrial Supply Company of Melville has been supporting the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island since 1995. In 2005, they started a program in which MSC donates a portion of their glove sales to the House; to date the glove sales have totaled $58,000. On October 15th, MSC came to the House to drop off their latest gift - $18,764.00!

On Sunday October 12th, members of The Association of Legal Administrators came to The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island to volunteer their time and assist with some housekeeping around the facility. On August 19th, the New York Mets stepped up to the plate once again for the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island as they hosted the fourth Left Field Terrace "Evening at Shea Stadium" fundraiser. While the fundraiser was a huge success, out on the field, the New York Mets defeated their long-time rival, Atlanta Braves, in an exciting 7-4 win.

Tragic events often bring out the best in people. Earlier this year, 17-year-old Marc Dawson of Huntington died from drowning while training to become a Navy SEAL. For the six nights following their son's accident, Ray and Dianne Dawson stayed at The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island while Marc was treated at Schneider Children's Hospital. Five months after his untimely accident, Marc's memory is kept alive by anonymous donation of $40,000 to the House, in his honor.

Sheira & Loli, the beloved, larger-than-life stars of the popular kids TV series, Sheira & Loli's Dittydoodle Works, which broadcasts Saturday mornings on WLIW21, gave a magical, high-energy performance of song and dance recently that enchanted the children of the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island. After their musical concert, the loveable ragtop twins thrilled children with a meet and greet session where kids had the opportunity to take pictures with the stars.

Led by Phil Molloy,Youth Group Minister at St. Joseph and St. Agnes Churches, student members of the youth groups from both churches organized a fun-filled carnival on a sweltering June day to help the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island. More than 100 golf and tennis players took up their clubs and rackets and joined their colleagues and friends at the Lloyd Frazier Memorial Golf & Pro-Am Tennis Outing on a sunny, sweltering June day. While this is the eleventh year the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island has held this event, it is the first annual outing since being renamed in honor of the memory of Lloyd Frazier, McDonaldâ??s Owner/Operator and friend of the House. Held at the beautiful Tam Oâ??Shanter Golf Club in Brookville, the event featured a full day of golf; a tennis round robin and drills; lunch on the course, raffle prizes; silent and live auctions; and a cocktail reception and buffet dinner. All guests honored David Widmer, President and General Manager of The Long Island Radio Group, located in Farmingdale.

On a delightful, sunny day in June, nearly 25 representatives of Rotary International District 7250 gathered on the premises of the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island to dedicate a new van to the families of the House. The representatives, all of whom are from the Flushing, West Hempstead, Taipei Castle and Rotary Foundation, have a unique relationship with the House. In the past, they funded one of the Houseâ??s resident vans and have once again stepped up to help the organization by generating funds for a much-needed new van.

World class jockeys, dressed in their colorful riding silks, took a detour from the Belmont Race track just days before entering the 140th Annual Belmont Stakes, the final and most challenging leg of the Triple Crown. Jockeys Rajiv Maragh, Alan Garcia, John Velazquez and Javier Castellano stopped by the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island on Thursday, June 5th, bringing caps and goggles for all the children staying at the House. The enthusiastic jockeys were accompanied by their famous Bugler, Sam Grossman, a lively gentleman dressed in classic red and white attire who entertained children and their family members with a variety of tunes on his fifty-one inch horn.

Friends and relatives of Beverly Goldstein, a former New York City elementary school teacher and Ladies Doubles Champion are organizing the second "BG Tennis Open" to commemorate her life. The event, which will benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island, will be held on Thursday, July 31, 3:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the Racquet Club of East Hampton on 191 Bucksill Road in East Hampton.

More than 200 people from the business and non-profit arenas came together on Tuesday, May 6 at Carlyle on the Green in celebration of the "2008 Breakfast of Champions," a kickoff event hosted by The Long Island Way. Founded by Donna Cariello, president of the organization, the Long Island Way is a unique business that promotes, supports and connects businesses and non-profits and helps foster new partnerships that are mutually beneficial. The event, which featured a trade expo and raffle opportunities, included an enjoyable executive breakfast and discussions by presenters.

Coordinators of the event, Joseph Cervone, Proprietor of City Cafe, Lauren Guido, Banquet Manager and Patricia Raabe of Massapequa were instrumental in helping to raise more than $5,300!

More than 75 representatives of the press and broadcast media throughout Long Island and the metropolitan New York area attended a reception at the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island last week. The purpose of the event was to recognize the important role that our media partners play in helping to spread the word about the House's important mission. The social evening began with networking among guests and tours of the facility, provided by staff, volunteers and members of the Board of Directors. It was followed by an inspirational presentation by the Sally family, who are residents of the House. All attendees enjoyed delicious hors' d'oeuvres, refreshments, wine and desserts.

Five years ago, the sixth grade classes at Herricks Middle School parlayed their love of reading into a community service project that would help the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island. This successful endeavor has not only piqued their interest in reading books, it has also taught them the value of giving back. Last year, the students raised a whopping $14,000! Together with their sixth grade teachers and Andy Kover, Assistant Principal, the students are planning their fifth Read-a-thon, which will raise additional funds for the House.

Author of more than 30 children's picture books, Babette Douglas, a larger-than-life individual in her 70's with an exuberant personality and love for children, has written an upbeat picture book specifically geared to help families and children dealing with the hardships of illness. "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" and deserve to have a break from their normal daily routines. That's why girls of all ages are being called upon to bring their friends and family to the "Girls Will Be Girls" event at the Manhasset Lord & Taylor to benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island. The event will be held at the Manhasset store on Saturday, June 14 from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. All proceeds from this event will be donated to the House.
The day's activities include mini-makeovers; raffles; a gift with the purchase of cosmetics; complimentary gift wrapping; and an additional savings pass on items purchased throughout the day. Children will have the opportunity to have their faces painted by a talented team of artists, as well as enjoy musical entertainment, provided by a DJ.

Under the leadership of Teachers Linda Linick and Joseph Coladonato, the students of the Willets Road School on I.U. Willets Road in Roslyn Heights recently held a bracelet and bake sale that raised $500 for the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island. The bracelets bear the slogan, "WRMS Making A Difference." The fundraiser was coordinated by the Student Government Officers. After roundtable discussions, the compassionate students chose to donate the funds to the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island.

When students and leaders from Junior Girl Scout Troop 440 of Port Washington School District visited the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island recently, the youngsters donned their chef's hats, rolled up their sleeves and baked dozens of scrumptious cookies for the families at the House. After they finished preparing the cookies, some of the girls had the opportunity to listen to a delightful reading by Children's Book Author, Babette Douglas of Long Island. Ms. Douglas read her new book, Welcome To the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island, which will be published this summer.

Recently, employees from The Bank of New York Mellon of New York City prepared a delectable dinner consisting of chicken cutlets, baked ziti with three-meat sauce, garlic bread and cookies for the residents of the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island. The bank also served as a tee-shirt sponsor for the House's annual Sports Festival event, held at Cantiague Park on May 31.

Mark Laytin of Invisus Direct received a higher calling to assist a charitable organization and has recently become a business advocate for the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island. He chose the House on which to devote his community service efforts because he was familiar with the organization and its vital mission to help families with sick children.
- 5-1-08 - 'TEAM TARA' TAKES THE CHALLENGE AT THE LONG ISLAND MARATHON AND GENERATES THOUSANDS FOR A GREAT CHARITY
The air was charged with great expectations and high spirits as more that 6,000 runners met at the "Festival of Races" near Eisenhower Park to complete the marathon, half marathon or 10-kilometer race. Joining them were the enthusiastic runners from "Team Tara," a group led by Michael Fallarino of Farrell Fritz in Uniondale. The group, mostly made up of "Fallarino" family members and friends of the family, set out to do what they were determined to do - to run in honor of Mr. Fallarino's niece, Tara, who died tragically of Pfeiffer's Syndrome in 2001 at the age of two.

The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island hosted its annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner last week in honor of the exemplary volunteers who give their hearts and their time to assist with various tasks at the House. More than 100 volunteers from Long Island and Queens put on their best outfits and dancing shoes and enjoyed the event, held at Koenig's Restaurant in Floral Park. The evening's festivities included musical entertainment, a delicious meal and an awards ceremony to honor the volunteers who have gone above and beyond the call of duty.

Donning his chef's hat, Jim Neitz, a volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island, whipped up a delicious meal to the delight of staff and families. The menu was a feast that included dishes such as honey mustard chicken, raspberry chipotle lamb chops, apple Chutney pork chops, honey barbecued sausage, pasta primavera salad, stuffed mushrooms and maple rum roasted fruit for dessert.

The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island held a jewelry fundraiser recently, which enabled friends of the House to purchase distinctive jewelry, handbags and sunglasses just in time for Mother's Day. Laurel Lee Dammann, President and Founder of Laurel Lee Jewelry, Inc., donated thirty percent of the sales to the House, totaling $2,600.

Charlie Chazen, a great father, new grandfather, retired principal from P.S. 19 and long-time volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island continues to bring people together at the House. Not only does he enjoy making people laugh with his dry sense of humor and personable manner, he recently decided to round-up three of his former teaching colleagues to create a memorable meal for the families at the House.

Viewers will be given a flavor of the programs that are offered to residents, as well as have a glimpse of the interesting history of â??The House That Love Built.â? The House, which is located in Queens County, has literally touched thousands of lives since its inception in 1986.

The Vietnam War Veterans Association (VWVA) of Nassau County has collaborated with Ronald McDonald House of Long Island President, Robert S. Weitzner in the creation of a new program. This endeavor will generate funds to subsidize Vietnam War veterans whose families are staying at the House. Recently, Joyce Rommel, Executive Secretary and Bob English, Fundraising Chair from the VWVA stopped by the House and had the opportunity to receive a tour of the beautiful forty-two bedroom facility.

In celebration of their milestone anniversary, the event will be held on Friday, March 28th at the New Hyde Park Inn, seven p.m. to midnight. The evening will begin with an elaborate open bar cocktail hour followed by dinner. Chance raffles, a silent auction, entertainment and dancing will add to the festivities of the evening.

New Hyde Park, NY (March, 2008) - Just in time for St. Patrick's Day, children at the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island had an opportunity to bake "Welcome Home" shamrock cookies with Lisa Basini, better known as "The Baking Coach". The children donned chef's hats, provided by Ms. Basini and rolled up their sleeves to decorate the cookies. The cookies they created were adorned with green glaze, green sprinkles and then topped off with green candy. Ms. Basini brought all the ingredients for the recipe when she visited the House recently, as part of the "Kids Helping Kids" program.

New Hyde Park, NY (March 2008) - An American journalist, philanthropist and long-time resident of Port Washington, Walter Kaner is best known for his stint as "Tokyo Mose" during and after World War II where he aired a popular broadcast radio show on US Army Radio. A well-known columnist for several news publications, including the Queens Gazette, Long Island Press and New York Daily News, he was affectionately referred to as "the breath of home to unknown thousands of young men when they were lonely."

The two organizations met on Friday, February 22nd at the House in New Hyde Park to discuss a promising partnership. Seven members of the Long Island Way braved the trip to the House and enjoyed a delightful breakfast and tour of the facility. Once the visitors arrived, they forgot about their frustrating trip through the snow and immediately felt the warmth and soothing atmosphere that the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island provides for all guests.

The Rockettes took time out of their busy schedule to spend time with some children and show off some of their impressive moves. Girl Scouts 3029 from Carle Place and their leaders were also on hand to learn how to be a part of the famous kick line.

New Hyde Park (January, 2008) Lawrence Anderer, former Chairman and longtime member of the Board of Directors at the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island, has retired from his membership position as of December, 2007. Mr. Anderer, a resident of Rockville Centre for 40 years, became involved at the House in 1993. When he joined the Board of Directors 15 years ago, he served as both president and Chairman of the Board for several years of his term.

New Hyde Park, NY (December 21, 2007) -Seven senior girl scouts from the Seaford/Wantagh Association, Deanna Culen, Samantha Ehl, Michelle Murphy, Ellen O'Brien, Samantha Paulik, Shannon Thompson, Nicole Visconti and their leaders wanted to do a project to help a favorite charity and came up with a winning idea. The girls raised funds to fill a hand-crafted bookcase they created that displays the word "Believe" on the front of it -- and then bought books, 17 DVD games and Play Station games to fill it. In addition, they collected $256. Their gifts were donated to the children staying at the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island. It will bring enjoyment to these children not only during the holidays but throughout the entire year!

Recently, the Key Club at the school discovered a challenging way to help several charities at the same time, including the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island. Students in the Key Club held a fundraiser that sold die cuts of the House, organized by the students and their Teacher, Muriel Delabor. Their efforts raised a total of $13,000 which was split between several charities.

Weitzner received the prestigious award, along with other honorees from the community in the categories of "Local Heroes," "Student Leaders" and "Neighborhood Builders." New Hyde Park (November, 2007) The entire student body at the Lexington School for the Deaf in Jackson Heights have been working on a labor of love for the last few months. Just in time for the holiday season, fourteen students from the school stopped in at the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island to present a hand-crafted quilt that expresses how they really feel about the House. Created with assorted colorful patchwork squares, each square is lovingly adorned with a hand that represents the sign 'I Love You' in American Sign Language. After their presentation, they received a tour of the facility by long-time House Volunteer, Freda Harris.

New Hyde Park (October, 2007) - If things that go bump in the night thrill you, than the Second Annual Halloween Festival, a week-long event coordinated by the Patchogue Riverfront Committee and West Bank Marina, would have made you jump out of your skin! This pirate-laden event that featured a haunted ferry ride and spook-tacular haunted house complete with fighting pirates, cauldron-brewing witches, walking skeletons and a giant, poisonous talking spider, was held on October 25 to 31 to benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island. The tropical scene at the West Bank Marina, complete with large palm trees and beach, seemed to come straight out of the famous novel, Treasure Island.

New Hyde Park, NY (October 23, 2007) - Every year for the past three years, MSC Industrial Direct Co., Inc. of Melville has opened their heart to connect with families at the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island. As part of the "Safety Gloves Program," a fundraising project that involves the sale of work gloves, the gloves are sold to customers and a portion of the proceeds are collected for the House. This year, MSC collected $14,398! MSC has partnered with the House in other ways, specifically, by becoming sponsors at various fundraising events.

The students came to the House to participate in the Volunteer Dinner Program, a program that provides an opportunity for organizations, schools and individuals to cook a dinner meal to feed all the families residing at the House for one night.

New Hyde Park, NY (September 21, 2007) Six hundred employees of the Ridgewood Savings Bank in Queens participated in a "Bake For A Cure" fundraiser to benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island. The fundraiser was held for an entire week, said Coordinator of the event, Patricia Schweickert. This year is the third year that the bank has hosted a fundraiser to help the families of the House. Through their combined efforts, employees raised $1,242 for the House.

New Hyde Park (August, 2007) More than 70 people hit the courts in sneakers and tennis garb to play competitive matches in the BG Tennis Open, held on August 9 at the East Hampton Tennis Club. The event honored the life of Beverly Goldstein, a former East Hampton resident and teacher in the New York City school system. The day's activities consisted of organized tennis drills with instruction by club pros; a round robin tournament and cocktail hour with hors d'oevres. The event, which raised a total of a whopping $24,000, will benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island.

The Sixth graders at McKenna Elementary School of Massapequa Park love pizza, but they love helping others even more. One of their exceptional teachers, Don Seddio developed an educational program where the class created a pizza- making company, and sold Thomas' English Muffin pizzas to school staff members. Their ingenuity helped to raise $148 for a charity of their choice.

In September, 2006, 13-year-old Jesse Dolan of Selden, Long Island, underwent open-heart surgery at Schneider Children's hospital in New Hyde Park. Today, he is an active and healthy young teenager who is looking forward to entering junior high school next year.

Any time it involved kids at the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island, the New York Jets have always been champions. The New York Jets helped fund a room at the House several years ago through their annual golf outings and now they are passing the torch to the younger group of players. Yesterday, eighteen of the New York Jets, their Coach, Jerome Henderson and New York Jets icon, Bobby Jackson, took a detour from the fields to touch down at the House. After receiving a tour of the facility from Board member, Theresa Brucculeri, the big guys mingled with the families and kids and signed autographs to the delight of youngsters, staff and volunteers at the House.

Here because of "Mitzvah Day", the Midway Jewish Center of Syosset, New York visited The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island recently to donate 75 stunning quilts. The 230 children at the Midway Jewish Center raised $5,000 for The Ronald McDonald House in their "mitzvah" project entitled, "Soaring Words." A mitzvah is any good deed one does so the children brought their hand-made items to beautify the House and make it more comfortable for the families who stay there.

If one is diligent about saving pennies, each and every penny can add up to a considerable amount. Just last week, the Student Council from P.S. 186Q, of Bellerose, New York proved that this is true. They paid a visit to The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island and donated $500 that they had collected from their annual Penny Harvest!

Tennis courts were abuzz with players who vied for first place in challenging tennis matches held throughout the day.

On a beautiful, sun-drenched day last week, complete with softball and volleyball tournaments; a 1.5 mile walk-a-thon that featured Ronald McDonald, Bobby Jackson of the New York Jets and many adults and children, hundreds of families and individuals had the opportunity to enjoy the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island's 13th Annual Sports Festival at Cantiague Park in Hicksville. The day was chock full of fun that included a magic show by Ronald, face painting, music by KJOY 98.3 FM and JACK 101.1 FM, mini-golf and a barbecue lunch. Among the attendees was the energetic Sparky of the New York Islanders, who put smiles on the faces of people of all ages.

Challenging softball and volleyball tournaments brought out the best in players who fought to win the battle on the fields. For the second year in a row, the softball team who came in first place was Columbus Lodge who defeated Geico with a score of 10 to seven!

Just last week, the Vallerettes Kick Line of Valley Stream Memorial Junior High School participated in the 13th Annual Sports Festival, hosted by the Ronald McDonald House of Long Islandrecently. In addition to softball and volleyball tournaments, the 1.5 mile walk-a- thon is a popular attraction, and this year more than 350 walkers from all over Long Island participated.

The fourth grade class at P.S. 214 in Brooklyn has been conscientious about learning the meaning of community service this year. The students and their teacher, Suzie Berger, boarded a school bus on a beautiful spring day in May to visit with the families at the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island. They brought a cartload filled with much-need groceries and household items from the House "Wish List."

Only days before entering the final leg of the Triple Crown, five well-traveled world class jockeys, dressed in their colorful silks, will take a detour from the race track on Thursday, June 7, 2007 to visit the families of the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island! Children are filled with excitement at the prospect of the visit by the jockeys. Their traditional Bugler, Sam Grossman, whose powerful 51" horn announces the start of the races at the 139th Annual Belmont Stakes, will accompany them. Mr. Grossman is bringing his famous horn and will play well-known tunes for the families.

New Hyde Park (March, 2007) - When Rachel Weitzner of Port Washington found out that there was an Iraqi youngster at the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island in need of a hug, she created a hand-made card and brought it straight to him herself. Rachel, a pretty eight year-old student at Port Washington Elementary School, made the card originally for her grandmother. When she learned of Ali's medical condition, she decided that he needed it more.

The Student Service Organization of Mineola High School recently visited The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island, providing dinner to the families. The Student Service Organization is an umbrella organization that provides service projects to charities. Seventy of the 350 students who participate in the High School based organization visit the House seven times a year.

Children of all ages enjoyed their antics. Using a backdrop of the living room as a circus ring, Juan Quiroz Olate of the famous Olate family and his scooter-riding, barrel-rolling, back-flipping pooches took center stage.

- 2-18-07 - Mt. Sinai Elementary School Discovers A Smart Way to Raise Funds for the House
New Hyde Park (January, 2007) - Sixteen students from the Fourth Grade Student Council at Mt. Sinai Elementary School and their teachers put a great deal of thought into organizing a special fundraising activity to help children at the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island. After researching a product that would tie into the school's "wellness policy," the teachers and students purchased a large number of smencils, scented pencils made of 100 percent recyclable newspaper, and sold them for $1.00 each to the entire student body. Through the hard work of the fourth grade students, they raised a total of $1,000 on the sale of the smencils and recently presented the check to the House.

New Hyde Park (January, 2007)- Nine year-old Ashley Tortora of Whitestone, Queens is learning about community service at a very young age. Ashley accompanies her grandmother and House Volunteer, Pat O'Donnell to the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island on a regular basis to help prepare meals for the House's Volunteer Dinner Program. The Volunteer Dinner Program provides delicious meals to families, cooked by individuals and organizations in the community and surrounding areas.

New Hyde Park(January, 2007) - Five volunteers at Ronald McDonald House of Long Island bonded when they learned they shared something in common. Known as the "Three Amigos Plus Two," John Buglione, Jim Nietz, Charlie Chazen, Pat O'Donnell and Pat Balducci brought their culinary skills and love of cooking to the kitchen at the House. The group has been whipping up gourmet meals every month for the past two years.

New Hyde Park(January, 2007)- The eighth grade students from Richard Aceste's classes at Merrick Middle School have been very busy these days. In addition to studying, doing homework and participating in after-school school activities, they have built a new relationship with the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island. Recently, these enthusiastic students sold House die cuts, small replicas of the House, and collected a whopping $1,000. The die cuts are presently decorating the walls of the Middle School.

New Hyde Park (January, 2007) Members of the Student Council at New Hyde Park Memorial High School have been busy brainstorming ways to raise money for a charitable cause and have taken their ideas to the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island. To help the families, have been selling die cuts, small cardstock replicas of the Ronald McDonald House. Students recently collected $250 from the sale of die cuts at the High School and donated the funds to the House.

New Hyde Park, NY (January, 2007) - The Long Island Board of Realtors (LIBOR) were recently recognized for raising more than $35,000 for the House during a dedication at the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island. LIBOR members from Queens, Nassau and Suffolk Counties have been conducting fundraisers since last year to generate funds for the House's Share-A-Night program, a vital program that waives the $25 per night room fee for economically disadvantaged families.

New Hyde Park, NY (January, 2007) - Micheline Cummings and Terry Haughey of Madame Butterfly Cakes stepped through the doors of the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island recently and were completely inspired by the people and the facility. After touring the House and determining a theme for a cake design for the House, Micheline and Terry created the most remarkable cake, a beautiful replica of the Victorian-inspired dollhouse that decorates the House's living room. They recently donated this delicious and delightful treat, which fed more than 200 people at a recent event hosted at the House.

Bearing smiles and assorted gifts, the group placed them under the tree in the living room and received a tour of the beautiful facility.

This year, the Matthews collected monetary donations for the Guide Dog Foundation and the House.

Laura Probst and her family of Massapequa Park are not only well-known for their artistic flair for decorating their home in holiday style, they also raise funds during the festive holiday season for a very good cause: The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island. Every inch of the Probst home displays nearly 16,000 dazzling lights and sports figurines such as a skiing polar bear, igloo with penguins, candy cane arch and an animated sea lion, just to name a few.

Kennedy High School in Bellmore whipped up a gourmet meal consisting of Chicken Marsala, vegetable fried basmati rice, bruschetta with roasted red peppers and broccoli with green beans. To top off a wonderful menu, they made a delicious apple raisin crisp with vanilla cream that the families at the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island enjoyed.

New Hyde Park (December, 2006) - More than 100 real estate professionals, business leaders and community residents put on their dancing shoes and shared an enjoyable evening that consisted of cocktails, hors d'oevres, desserts and musical entertainment to benefit families at the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island. The fundraising event, hosted by the Nassau North Shore Chapter of the Long Island Board of Realtors, was held at the Woodlands in Woodbury on December 5, 2006 and raised $6,260 for the House.

New Hyde Park (November 10, 2006) - Merrick residents, Felicia Cilibrasi and her parents, Robert and Arline Kramer's lives were in an upward spiral ever since they learned they were chosen to attend the Oprah Winfrey Show, "Oprah's Favorite Giveaway Ever," on October 30, 2006. They were even more surprised to learn that they would be the recipients of $1,000 each in debit cards on the show to donate to a charitable cause. The only catch is that they would have to complete their mission within a week, while videotaping the entire journey.

(November, 2006) - The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island marked their 20th year of service to families by honoring many devoted volunteers of the House during the 2006 Volunteer Recognition Dinner. Since its inception in 1986, the House in New Hyde Park (Queens County) has served approximately 9,500 families locally and across the globe. The bulk of families who reside at the House are from the Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island, Suffolk and Nassau Counties.

New Hyde Park, NY (August, 2006) The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island is delighted that the Mineola Boy Scout Troop #45 has focused its philanthropic efforts on our organization. In celebration of the House 20th anniversary, Chris Campbell of Troop #45 spoke to House Manager Karen Calma to see how he and his fellow scouts could contribute to the House. The House needed help planting flowers and shrubs on its grounds, to honor its 20th year of active, community service.

- 8-1-06 - The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island Celebrates with the New York Mets at Shea Stadium
New Hyde Park (August, 2006) Nearly 140 friends of the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island attended an exciting game and fundraising event at Shea Stadium when the New York Mets defeated the St. Louis Cardinals recently with a score of eight to seven! Fans and supporters of the House were thrilled after Carlos Beltran belted out the final home run that ended the game with the Mets victory. The festivities were heightened when two of the New York Mets, left-handed relief pitcher, Royce Ring and Pedro Feliciano joined House friends in Left Field Terrace to mingle and sign autographs.
- 7-24-06 - A DAY FOR DREAMS
A Day for Dreams is a non-profit organization that was founded by Susan McKay-Bohner, and is funded by the Shank Foundation. The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island has teamed up with this organization for "A Day at the Beach." The foundation's main goal is to bring joy to children who are struggling with cancer
and other life-threatening diseases, and to help raise awareness of childhood cancer.
- 6-23-06 - Aces Of The Courts Compete to Benefit The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island
New Hyde Park (June 19, 2006) Tennis players from all over Long Island competed in a challenging series of matches at the beautiful Tam O'Shanter Country Club to benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island. The event, which also included a round of golf on a backdrop of thick rolling greens, was held on June 12 in honor of Charles M. Trunz, III, Regional Chief Operating Officer at North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System.
- 6-23-06 - Exceptional Teen Jamie Terran Volunteers at Ronald McDonald House of Long Island
Jamie Terran began volunteering for the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island two years ago, when she was just 16 years-old. A resident of Forest Hills, Queens, she began serving at the House as a weekend volunteer. Jamie's mother, Linda, said that the benefits of participating in community service at the House have far outweighed the service credits or time she has committed.
- 6-23-06 - Garden City High School Students Create First Ronald McDonald House Float - Displayed at GC Parade
New Hyde Park (June, 2006) - Garden City High School was the first to implement a Ronald McDonald House Club for students, to raise awareness of community service opportunities close to home. The program now has 35 members from grades nine through twelve. The club creates a lasting legacy between the school and the House, and is designed to provide students with an all-inclusive experience that allows them to earn community service credits.
- 6-23-06 - Golfers and Tennis Players Enjoy Friendly Competition at Ninth Annual Golf and Pro-Tennis Outing
New Hyde Park (June 19, 2006)More than 120 golfers set out to make par on a beautiful backdrop of magnificently landscaped greens at the Tam O'Shanter Country Club in Brookville. The event, which also included a round robin tennis competition and pro-am tennis, was held on June 12 in honor of Charles M. Trunz, III, Regional Chief Operating Officer at North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System.
- 6-23-06 - Italian-Americans From Long Island and Queens Enjoy a Grand Cocktail Reception at Ronald McDonald House of Long Island
New Hyde Park (May 5, 2006) More than 100 Italian-American guests from all over Long Island and Queens gathered at the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island on Wednesday, May 4 for a social evening that included musical entertainment by Maurizio, scrumptious foods and desserts, and an array of fine Italian, Chilean and Australian wines, compliments of Banfi Vintners. Guests enjoyed an assortment of other delicacies that were generously donated by Bion Appetitto, Trattoria Lucia, La Bussola Restaurant, Russo's On the Bay, Desserts by Bindi and Nino's Bakery and Pastry Shop.

New Hyde Park (March, 2006) Joy Kastner, a long-time member of the Board of Directors at the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island, will be honored for her work with children and devotion to the community.
