Long Island Royals Win First Round of 2011 RMH-LI CUP!

New Hyde Park, NY (November 2011) – The Long Island Royals took the win for the first round of The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island Cup against Metro Moose! An intense, five-minute, sudden death overtime resulted in Royals captain Michael Cartwright picking a top corner in the final 2.5 seconds, ending the game in their favor.  The Royals will face the winner of the second game (Apple Core vs. Suffolk P.A.L.—November 15, 2011) on January 10, 2012 on New York Islander ice!

The RMH-LI Cup is the most prestigious junior hockey tournament in the Long Island / New York City area featuring the four most storied junior programs: New York Apple Core, Suffolk PAL, Long Island Royals and Metro Moose. The teams will square off to have their team name engraved on the treasured RMH-LI Cup all for a great cause! The winners of the two qualifying games will go head-to-head in the Championship Game at Nassau Coliseum on January 10, 2012. Tickets for this game are $25 each and also include admission to the NY Islanders vs. Detroit Red Wings game.

“We are honored that the Long Island Royals and Metro Moose have taken the initiative to give back to the community by raising awareness and funds for the House,” said Matthew Campo, RMH-LI Executive Director. “Proceeds from this event will ensure that we are able to serve children and families in the toughest of times.” RMH-LI’s partnership with the NY Islanders is an exciting opportunity for the House. “We are looking forward to the Championship Game!” said Campo. The teams also participated in the RMH-LI Dinner Program, where the players and coaches cooked for the resident families.

To attend the second round of the 2011 RMH-LI Cup on November 15, 2011 at The Rinx in Hauppauge and learn about sponsorship opportunities, please contact the RMH-LI Director of Fundraising Operations, Jeanne Ellis at jellis@rmhlongisland.org or 516-775-5683 ext. 140.

The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island is a ‘home-away-from-home’ for families who are caring for seriously ill children undergoing medical treatment in area hospitals. Located in New Hyde Park on the campus of the Steven and Alexandra Cohen Children’s Medical Center of New York (formerly Schneider Children’s Hospital), the House accommodates families in a warm and supportive environment. Since opening in 1986, approximately 14,000 families from the United States and more than 80 countries around the world have been served.  Many of the families are from Queens, Suffolk and Nassau Counties, as well as the surrounding metropolitan area.
